Message I have been told by a smog shop that my timing is erratic, he said it was bouncing all over.

I didnt have a chance to check it myself, and I dont know if he checked it properly, but I thought I would take this time to remove and clean my CAS.

I removed my CAS from my car as well as the CAS from my spare engine (Early 90 engine)

This is the CAS from mine:

As you can see, the screws are very corroded, and the inside was very dirty. The bearing also has the feeling of a few worn spots, and doesnt turn smoothly. I'm thinking the corrosion and bearing wear signal towards this unit having other possible problems.

This is the one removed from the parts engine:

This one was very clean and turns smoothly. Neither of the gear teeth show any signs of wear.

Now my question is: I know the early model CAS units were subject to misalignment and wore quickly. Was the misalignment due to the CAS itself or the bracket? Im hoping to swap this one into it without any issues.

Thanks

-Steven
